Babine

on Tue, 10/25/2011 - 16:46

This is long overdue.  The Babine Trip happened in August but the video was scheduled to show at the Aquabatics Film Competition on October 20th so it had to remain hidden.  Now that the event is done the video is finally up.  Check it out.

Home Already

on Mon, 09/19/2011 - 18:31

So, after just under 400 kilometers I threw in the towel on my Fraser River trip.  On day 7 I arrived at  Hansford and saw that there was one Honda Element with a brand spankin new Liquid Logic Stomper 90 on top.  That Element had been driven there by my lovely wife, Rebecka, as if she could read my mind.  She had packed up and driven out to see me on the river.  Her intention was to camp the night and then send me on my way.  I, however, had another idea.

Getting ready for 25 days of kayaking.

I live in paradise.  With a beautiful woman and surrounded by nature and wildlife, loomed over by the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies it would be hard to ague that this is not paradise.   The house I live in is situated a few minutes walk and a few minutes paddle from the Fraser River.  Downstream of where Swift Current Creek hits it the Fraser flows through some gentle channels and past immense log jams.  After that it passes the base for Mount Robson Whitewater before picking up and cruising through some class II and III rapids broken up by Rearguard Falls.

Week 3 of the Old Schoolers Trip.

on Fri, 09/02/2011 - 18:57

With a fully loaded van, trailer and element we headed down the road for Smithers, BC.  A quick grocery stop in Prince George and a long stretch of highway later and we were camped on the lawn at Susan's house.  Susan is the awesome lady that owns Aquabatics Smithers, the raddest  little paddling shop in Northern BC.  The crew stopped in to check out all the gear and pick up some supplies for the trip.  The adult types stopped next door at the Eddy Line Bistro and Cafe to get some hot beverages and some super delicious baked goods.

Old Schoolers Week 2 Update

on Wed, 08/31/2011 - 20:59

It's all over and the kids have headed home but here's the week 2 update anyway.

We got the power tools out and got busy building some new stairs at the put in to the Upper Fraser.  It's still pretty slippery below the new stairs but they are a great start.  From there we got a few runs on the Fraser including a trip down the Canyon at around 55 cms.  The Upper was good to us at 70 and the Old Schoolers got to see what the Fraser has to offer with a decent amount of water in it.  To up the gnar factor on the trip we made a little trip to the South Fork of the Dore River.

Photo Update.

We're back at Mt. Robson for a day of Fraser action and I have just had a chance to sit down and get some photos sized and added to the first gallery from the trip.

Here are some shots from the past week of kayaking on the Mistaya, Pipestone, Kicking Horse and Maligne.
Check out the whole gallery here!
