INTRO TO KAYAKING
Here's your chance to get into a kayak on the lake and have a taste of how sweet it is to paddle around and enjoy the sights and sounds while learning a new skill. The Intro to Kayaking course is built for people who want to be confident paddling around on the lake or easy moving water. We will work on posture, boat control, the forward stroke, self rescue techniques and even things like how to carry and transport a kayak. If cruising down the lake or floating down an easy river is what you want to do then this course will help you build the skills and knowledge to do it safely.
Running from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, the Intro to Kayaking course will provide lots of information and lots of opportunity to learn and build on new skills. Saturday will be on flat water, likely Lake Edith, and Sunday will be a moving water day. We will cruise down the Miette or Athabasca while we learn about currents and hazards on moving water.
We will meet at the Jasper Aquatic Centre each morning and head out to the lake or river from there. On Sunday we will need to arrange one shuttle vehicle to be left at the take out on the Athabasca or Miette
What you need to bring:
Warm clothes to wear while we are on the water, fleece and wool work great. Footwear, old sneakers will do just fine. Warm clothes to change into after we get off the water. A lunch for each day.
